India
In doing research I realize that many countries are facing poverty. I decided to analyze India and was shocked by what I read. First, out of an estimated population of 1.03 billion, 260.2 million people are experiencing poverty. Secondly, poverty is not something that just a portion of people in India are familiar with because it’s a spreading epidemic. Thirdly there are so many children subjected to poverty. 62 million children all under the age of five are severely malnourished. Many new-borns are below the normal weight resulting in being severely underweight. Indeed, many infants under these circumstances do not make it, about 80 infants per 1000 live. As well, in India, a third of children who are under the age of 16, are in the working class.
Kimberly,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like half of your blog didn't post. I hope you can fix this in time! I would have never imagined premature babies and underweight children under the age of five in India! When I think of this country, I think of a well-to-do country, but thank you for opening my eyes! It sounds like this country is in poverty. I have met a lot of nice people from India, and everyone is a doctor! I wonder if social class is a big issue in this country.
Kimberly the information on India was informative especially the statistic of 80 infants out of 1000 live. It is sad that 16 year olds are part of the working class. If only the American 16 year olds would realize how blessed they are. Although, we might be surprised how many 16 year olds here in America are actually homeless and are working the streets to survive.
ReplyDeleteI saw a documentary on India. I was also very surpised at how poverty is in India. I have been talking to a guy from Bolivia. 59% of the population of over 8,274,325 inhabitants live in conditions of poverty and 24.4% live in conditions of extreme poverty.
